The arcade in downtown Hillsboro that has been transporting visitors back to the days of big hair, neon lights and 8-bit action is preparing to power down.
Arcade 2084, the self-described “bar that time forgot” at 248 E. Main St., announced on social media Thursday, May 8, that it will close its doors at the end of next month.
The post didn’t specify whether the closure is permanent or temporary, nor did it outline the reasons behind the decision.
Opened during the COVID-19 pandemic, the dark bar — lit by the flashing glow of vintage pinball machines and classic arcade cabinets — has served as a retro escape for gamers and nostalgia seekers, complete with old-school décor and rock anthems overhead.
Leading up to its final day on Sunday, June 29, the bar remains open from 5 p.m. to midnight, Thursday through Sunday. Entry is limited to patrons 21 or older.
“Get in here while you can for some great cocktails, awesome pizza and rad games,” the bar wrote in its farewell post.
