Prior to the season we were warned that this year’s Hops roster might be something special. As it turns out, they might be right.
Since losing their season opener Hillsboro has gone undefeated, winning their sixth straight when they defeated Everett 11-4 on Friday night, April 11, at Funko Field in Everett.
The Hops scored all they needed by the fourth inning, but added six runs in the eighth inning as an exclamation point to what amounted to another impressive win.
Offensively, Hillsboro had eight players tally hits, five of whom notched more than one.
Ben McLaughlin topped the heap, finishing 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, while Cristofer Torin, Jansel Luis, Druw Jones and Junior Franco had two hits apiece.
The Hops fell behind 1-0 on a Colt Emerson RBI-double in the bottom of the first, but scored four runs of their own in the top of the second and proceeded to plate another in the fourth befor breaking things open in the sixth.
Gavin Logan joined Jones, McLaughlin, Franco and Anderdson Rojas with two RBI.
Hillsboro starting pitcher John West impressed on the mound, allowing one earned run on just two hits, while striking out seven and walking one in four innings of work.
Alexis Liebano got the win for the Hops, while Everett’s Ryan Hawks took the loss after allowing four earned runs over four innings.
With the win, Hillsboro improved to 6-1 while the AquaSox dropped to 2-5.
