Eight-run third inning propels Hops to 8-4 win over AquaSox

Another day, another win for the Hops.

A day removed from a fourth consecutive win, Hillsboro made it five straight with an 8-4 win over Everett on April 10, at Funko Field.

The Hops seized control with all eight of their runs in the third inning and never looked back, led by Cristofer Torin who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, along with one big swing by Angel Ortiz.

After a Ryan Waldschmidt bases loaded single drove in Hillsboro’s first run, Ortiz emptied the bases with a home run to left field, giving the Hops a 5-2 lead, ending Everett starting pitcher William Fleming’s day, and setting the table for what would be the eight-run third.

Meanwhile, Hillsboro starting pitcher Daniel Eagen–despite having given up two runs–was dealing, striking out 10 while walking just one over his 4.1 innings of work.

From there, the Hops bullpen consisting of Eli Saul, Carlos Rey and Luke Craig did what the Hops bullpen has been doing so far this year, limiting the opposition to the tune of a single hit to go with seven strikeouts over the game’s final 4.2 innings.

Saul got the win for Hillsboro, while Fleming took the loss for the AquaSox.

In addition to Ortiz, Torin and Waldschmidt, Demetrio Crisantes and J.J. D’Orazio finished with two hits apiece, while Druw Jones had a hit and two runs scored.

The Hops will look to continue their winning streak when they again face Everett at 7:05 p.m. this evening, at Funko Field in Everett.
