The streaking Hops are streaking in the wrong direction now, having lost their second straight after falling to Spokane 8-2 on April 15, in the first of six games with the Indians and in all, 12 straight home games.

Spokane (5-5) got a run in the first inning on an Andy Perez solo home run, then proceeded to tack-on single runs in the second, third, fifth and seventh before scoring three more in the ninth en route to what amounted to an easy series-opening win.

Hillsboro (7-3) responded to Perez’ opening-inning blast with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the first when both Cristofer Torin and Ryana Waldschmidt scored on a Cole Messina throwing error. But as it would turn out, that was the last time a Hop would touch home plate in the game, as they managed just five hits the remainder of the game.

The Indians used six pitchers in the game, none of which allowed an earned run while combining to strike out 13.

Hops starter Daniel Nunez lasted 4.1 innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.

Offensively, Spokane was led by Braylen Wimmer, Jesus Ordonez, Aidan Longwell and EJ Andrews Jr. who each tallied two hits in the game, with Andrews Jr. and Perez both homering.

Torin was Hillsboro’s only batter with multiple hits, finishing 2-for-4.

The Hops’ Druw Jones finished 1-for-5, hitting safely in his seventh consecutive game.

The two teams will meet again tonight at 6:35 p.m. at Hillsboro Ballpark.
