A new initiative from the Washington County Chamber of Commerce is helping amplify the voices of businesses operating outside city limits.
Under the newly formed Washington County Unincorporated Business Advisory Council, the chamber plans to provide a collaborative platform for business owners and leaders in unincorporated areas to address shared challenges, weigh in on policy matters and participate in regional economic planning efforts.
“Businesses in unincorporated Washington County are a critical part of our economy, yet their voices are not always present in conversations that shape growth, infrastructure and policy,” Deanna Palm, president and CEO of the Washington County Chamber of Commerce, said in a release. “This new council creates an intentional space for these businesses to be heard and to engage with decision-makers on the issues that directly impact their future.”
Membership is open to small and large business owners, industrial and employment center representatives, and leaders across a wide range of sectors — including manufacturing, logistics, agriculture, food service and other industries — as well as commercial property owners and developers.
The council is expected to meet quarterly, with opportunities for additional working groups and sessions as needed. Focus areas will include zoning and permitting processes, land use and infrastructure planning, and strategies for workforce attraction and utility access. The group will also serve as a space for networking and information sharing.
