They say it’s not how you fall, but how you get back up.

After a tough defeat in their season opener a night prior, the Hops got back up to the tune of a 12-5 win over the Ems on Saturday, April 5, at Hillsboro Ballpark.

The Hops were led by Druw Jones, Ryan Waldschmidt and Jansel Luis who all tallied multiple hits, along with Jackson Feltner who along with Luis drove in four runs.

In all, Hillsboro notched 11 hits compared to just five in their opening game defeat.

Also carrying the load was 22-year-old righthand starter Mason Marriott who dazzled over 4.1 innings, allowing one earned run on just three hits while striking out four and walking two.

The Hops wasted little time jumping on the visiting Ems, getting one run in the first inning on a Luis RBI single, three more in the third on a Demetrio Crisantes sacrifice fly to go with a Luis two-run homer, and capped their scoring with eight runs in the fourth.

Eugene got a run in the fourth and sixth innings, then scored three in the ninth.

Jones had three hits in five at-bats for the Hops.

The two teams will meet in the rubber match of their three-game set at 1:05 p.m. on Sunday, at Hillsboro Ballpark.
